Dear BMR sponsors,

A massive pendulum swung across the month of January for Blackmarket Racing. The first weekend of the month would be the last that the whole team would race together for the '07/'08 season. While Trina and Edwin would be sharpening their form before heading across the pond to Belgium, the rest of us were tuning for the last few local races, or ending the season with a bang. Strong performances and consistency wrestled hard earned Central Coast CX series titles for Mark Abele and myself. Special mention goes out to Tim Thompson who, while knowingly sacrificing his own race result, stopped to lend medical assistance to a fallen camrade (from another team no less...), who crashed in the bustle of first-lap positioning, breaking his collarbone.

While representing BMR interests abroad, Trina and Edwin launched a European campaign that resulted in a record third consecutive silver medal for Trina, and a personal best ride for Edwin at the Masters Cross World Championships in Mol, Belgium.

Tragedy stuck hard for Janel and I when we were called to the side of my father in Santa Barbara, who had been fighting Melanoma for the past three years. While our fellow racers readied themselves for the Santa Cruz County Championships, our family quietly closed ranks around a true Scottish warrior, to insure his passing was surrounded by his loving clan.

Like so many situations we encounter in life, the lowest depths of despair are often the breeding ground for inspiration, fueled by an unwavering need to rise above. Janel and I took this sentiment to heart as we dedicated our last race of the season to Morgan Grant Macdonald, my father. Mother Nature dished up a cross-perfect storm to set the stage at the Peak Season CX final, at the Santa Cruz county fairgrounds. By the time of the elite races, the sky had opened up into what can only be described as a "Biblical" torrent of rain and thunder. The course was transformed into six-eight inches of trecherous, soupy slop where only the strong would excel. By the end of the day, our vows of dedication and loyalty were realized in commanding victories for both Janel and I.

Bruce's consistency earlier in the day, and throughout the Peak CX series, resulted in 2nd overall in the 45+B men, while Janel clinched the overall title, and I closed the team account with a 2nd overall as well.

The 2007/'08 cyclocross season is officially a wrap. I've said this the past four seasons in a row now, but if it's still true, I guess you can't overplay the sentiment. This has been the best season ever for Blackmarket Racing, and I can only hope for continued success in the future. I want to thank each and every one of you who have supported Blackmarket Racing in our vision of what racing should be about- a passion to live a life of your own design, while aspiring to be more, and do more.

Thank you all for your continued support of Blackmarket Racing in 2008, and beyond.
